Is your mobility holding back your golf swing?
If you feel restricted during your golf swing, or you’re struggling to make a swing change, limited range of motion could be part of the problem.
Testing your mobility first can help identify where the restriction is coming from and if a physical limitation is effecting your swing. Rather than simply guessing which stretches or exercises you need. It also gives you something to measure, so you can track whether your mobility is actually improving over time.
It’s also important to understand why you’re restricted in mobility. Is it a flexibility issue, a strength issue, a posture or movement/control issue? Often, it’s a combination of these.
For example, one area may be lacking flexibility while another may lack the strength or control to use the available range of motion effectively. This video goes through a few examples of how these things can work together to help with your backswing.
What you do for the rest of the day, outside of the gym, can also have a big impact on your progress. Such as sitting for long periods of time can make it harder to see changes.
